Right to Build

In 2016 legislation was enacted that requires all local authorities in England to maintain registers of people looking for opportunities to build their own home, either through self build, custom build or other community led routes. Each local authority has an obligation to use their local planning system to ensure that sufficient plots are made available to meet demand.

If you haven’t yet done so, we would encourage you to add your name to Bristol City Council’s self build register, where you can also get more information about support available for self builders in Bristol.

If you don’t live in Bristol, you can find your local register here.
