What is custom build?

The majority of new housing in the UK is built by large speculative developers, to standard designs. The developer buys the land, designs the houses, and begins construction before marketing the houses to potential occupiers. Custom build is different. In this model, the buyer commits to buy the property before it is built. The developer then works with the buyer to customise the design of the house to suit their tastes, requirements and budget. The developer usually offers a one stop shop supplying all the services that the buyer might need, and will manage the process on behalf of the buyer.
